Transcript
Interviewer: Imperator Furiosa, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today.
Furiosa: …
Interviewer: Few words. I respect it. I noticed you winced when you took a sip of your latte. Is it too hot? We can have it remade.
Furiosa: Out here everything hurts.
Interviewer: OKay then… Tell us about yourself?
Furiosa: I run long‑haul rigs. If this is about rigs, we can speak.
Interviewer: Well, yes, of course. Pirate Ship Is Not My Cult is focused on repairing, building, and operating long-haul rigs in a desert apocalypse. Ideal rig for the salt flats?
Furiosa: You Southerners take this rain for granted.
Interviewer: It hasn’t rained here for three years
Furiosa: Try Thirty, outside the Citadel.
Interviewer: Noted. Climate Change has really rocked us. Do you think the ways that things like diesel usage, propane, and gasoline have had an adverse effect on climate change?
Furiosa: Yes
Interviewer: Do you plan to change how you use fuels to lessen the impact on the climate?
Furiosa: Not today.
Interviewer: Alright. I’d love to know about your ideal Rig to traverse the salt flats of the desert that you reside in.
Furiosa: Reside is right. Nobody’s living. We just exist. We’re move toward hope. .
Interviewer: And you? What are you moving toward?
Furiosa:Redemption. Then, a new rig.
An 18-wheeler Tatra T815
Horsepower. 615 to start.
Ideally, torque over 1500. The war boys ride on that devil that has 2050 torque. I don’t need that, because I’m smarter. I need to be outmaneuver, not just outrun
Interviewer: So, do you mean turning radius? Are you thinking of just a traditional freight liner chassis
Furiosa: No I’m talking weapons.
Interviewer: That tracks.
Furiosa: I don’t leave tracks.
Interviewer: No, it’s a phrase. It means – sorry – continue. Weapons? Are you looking for builts ins
Furiosa: Are you implying I am using weapons just for show?
Interviewer: I’m so sorry. I think we must have gotten started on the wrong foot, could we …clear the air? Start fresh? I was just curious what kind of defense you need on a huge rig.
Furiosa: There’s no fresh starts here. But let’s get on with it. I think the war boys are on to something with their freakish turrets, but they’re easy to spot, easy to kill. So those are out. A must is armored hubcaps. Without them, your tires are as good as gone. Next, I need a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, the launcher bolted through a welded frame. I’ve been saving some old chairs. I think I can use the chair legs.
Interviewer: And guns?
Furiosa: I can’t give all my secrets away, but yes, I have those..
Interviewer: Let’s shift a little bit. What are the biggest concerns for you when you’re operating in the desert
Furiosa: Silence. Quiet is a weapon. Sound travels – with nothing to buffer. So everything is bolted down. Strapped. If it rattles, I’m dead.
Interviewer: Your rig is large. It’s got more moving parts, likelier to be loud. What are some tips you might have if you had to downsize to a smaller rig?
Furiosa: If you have a smaller rig, you’re going faster, further. So a second fuel tank bolted inside. Be boring. If you have a small rig, blend in. Be prepared, but stop with the over the top show. It’ll get you caught quicker and your only defense is in a 100-square-foot box on wheels. Shade cloth. And you know, a solar charger. We’ve got plenty of sun. Not a lot of other charging sources though
Interviewer: Speaking of chargers, would you consider an electric vehicle, maybe a Tesla?
Furiosa: This interview is over
Speed Answers
Interviewer: Solar banks—worth the weight?
Furiosa: Power keeps promises. Yes.
Interviewer: Water strategy?
Furiosa: Tabs when running, boil when waiting. Don’t drink the story you want. Drink what’s clean.
Interviewer: Weapon of choice?
Furiosa: The one that works.
